1-Identification and Determination of the Base
In the first step the worker has to
completely make sure of the base material (whether it is an old oil paint,
plastic paint, fresh gypsum or gypsum hard-burnt plaster, etc). To do so it may
be learned by visual observation of the surfaces, or inquiring the taskmaster.
2-Preparation of the Surfaces to Be Coated
The preparation of the surfaces is implemented to suit the type
of the surface. For instance, to cover an oil painted surface (particularly in
the kitchens), at first the oil should be removed, because the oily surface
prevents sticking of the material on oily surface after it is dried up soon a
gap is caused between the surface and the covering material. This paves the way
for falling off the covering material; also turning the material color into yellow.
The surfaces plastered with gypsum clay plaster, the dust should be thoroughly
removed by means of a wet gunny sack; and also with respect to the surfaces
covered with gypsum, but affected by dampness, initially the blisters and
damaged areas should be removed completely, before proceeding to finish work.
With regard to plastic painted or gypsum hard-burnt plaster
surfaces, initially some primer should be applied to prevent the water content
of the cellulosic material into the gypsum hard-burnt plaster or the plastic
paint. With regard to the cracked base surfaces, the cracks should initially be
treated through priming, then galaxy comfort wall coating covering applied.
(There are additional explanations in the chapter “Variety of surfaces and the
pre-requisites).
3-Mode of preparing the Materials and temperature standards of
the working area
After the preparation of the base, comes the turn of the
preparation of the materials according to the type of the base and the
implementation. Mixing water with the materials should be carried out in
separate stages; that is to add water just in case it is needed at each stage.
In principle, in the case of smooth surfaces, such as oil painted ones that are
non-absorbent, the materials applied should be with higher consistency (less
water); and lower consistency (more water) for the surfaces with porosity. Of
course the knack of doing it will be obtained through experience. To prepare
the material for a better application, it is preferable to use warm water and
after kneading let it remain for half an hour. Please note, the longer the
paste is left the more sticky it shall become (except for some codes that are
produced in cream color).
A very significant point pertaining to the implementation stage
is the cold weather. The covering should not be done in sub-zero temperature.
And in case it is implemented within the spaces heated by stove and central
heating, it should be ensured of the air circulation, because as a result of
humidity due to fast drying in closed spaces the covering shall be separated
and comes off. Therefore, to facilitate the air circulation it is imperative to
let the doors and windows open.
Diverse surfaces and the implementation pre-requisites
The diversified surfaces on which Galaxy Comfort wall coating
covering is practical to apply, need preliminary measures.
a) Smooth cement: In case of lack of stains due to
dampness or powdering because of aging no other direct action shall be
needed.
b) Coarse cement: In case of too much porosity, it
should be eliminated and also screening at the corners
and edges of the doors and windows, the covering may be
implemented. In the event of uneven surface, the covering may be applied in two
layers as prime coat and final. It is necessary to add that for the application
of the second layer, the first layer must dry up. In this type of base
initially should ensure of non-dusty surface by hand touch.
c) Kenitex: Such surface includes oily and wet
types. In case the oily Kenites surface is sound, the finish may be
applied with no further prerequisite, but if it is old and with come off
segments, it should be repaired and filled up by prime coating by means of a
spatula.
With regard to wet Kenitex, the wall surface should be totally
scraped off by a spatula and the dusts swept off completely and next preparing
the surface for implementation of prime coating before final finish. The
prerequisite of applying Galaxy Comfort wall coating on oily Kenitex is the
same as the wet one.
d) Colored surfaces: These surfaces include the
conventional, oily and plastic ones, which are prepared as
follows.
I-Oily
surfaces: If there is no crack or shedding on the surface, or oil (in
particular in kitchens), no problem in implementing the finish, but in case of
shed segments or stains, they should initially be eliminated. To fill up the
larger cracks, the deeper layers must be insulated by prime coating and only
then it should be implemented. With regard to kitchen grease, it should be
removed with water and foam, because it prevents the adhesion between the wall
and material.
II-Plastic paint: Since Galaxy
Comfort wall coating is a water base plaster, it is required to cover the
plastic painted surface with prime coat, at first. In some cases, in place of
the prime coat, we can apply a diluted oil paint regardless of any dripping or
the applicator traces.
e) Metallic surfaces: In case the surface is painted or
anodized, no problem in the implementation. In case the metallic surface
is not painted, it initially should be coated with a layer of oil paint or rust
proof paint, completely. Care should be taken that the surface is free from any
industrial grease; and in humid and coastal areas, it should not be directly
used on bare metal. On galvanized and aluminum surface there is no limitation,
as long as it is cleaned up, but a thicker material should be prepared.
f) Wooden surfaces: With regard to bare wooden surface
it should firstly be coated with a layer of mat oil paint. With regard
to bare chipboard surface, it should initially be coated with two layers of
paint (preferably mat) and let it dry up before applying the plaster. To arrive
at a better result, bare wooden and chipboard surfaces should be coated with
two thick layers of oil paint, without adding thinner, kerosene, and gasoline,
which are mainly added for diluting the paint before applying the Galaxy
Comfort wall coating finish. The latter should be noted in humid and coastal
areas also.
g) Glass, ceramic, and plastic surfaces: These surfaces may readily be coated, if they are free from any
soot and grease. Pertaining to ceramic, due to its texture applying two
layers of material is necessary. The initial layer shall serve as the base and
the second one as the top layer.
h) Gypsum and Gypsum Clay Surfaces: The gypsum surfaces are of the best and easiest ones to apply.
Of course, the surface with hard- burnt gypsum plaster must be primed
before finish.
In the event that there are stains or dripping on the surface,
it should be removed and smoothened by sand paper or the spray of vinegar
before finish. The surfaces with gypsum clay are also treated same way. To
implement Galaxy Comfort wall coating over a gypsum clay surface, before the
application of gypsum clay, the master craftsman should be requested to screed
and level the edges and corners of the doors and windows, only then the
pagination is carried out without any further prerequisites.
Note: Through some observations it has been noted that some
surfaces already covered by wall paper, but it is not disclosed to the
contractor. Since the glue of the wall paper loosens and powders the wall
material it harms the application of the layer. Therefore, it is recommended to
advise the contractor whether any wall paper used on the surface intended for
the application of the Galaxy Comfort wall coating finish, so that the
prerequisites to be considered.
